Faith / Belief

Question

Hello,
I’ve seen quite a few of your lectures in which you discuss the question of whether belief in God contradicts evolution or not, and more generally the question of whether there can be conclusive proof for the existence of God. But I think the more essential question is not whether or not there is a God, but rather: assuming there is one, what follows from that, and whether or how it affects my way of life. After all, if this question has no impact on the way I live, why is it something one should take an interest in, if from the outset it has no real significance?
And if the existence of God does have significance for my way of life, and you, as someone who observes Torah and commandments, how do you know that the existence of God leads specifically to the Torah and the commandments? And do you connect the reason for your being Jewish to that, or do you base this journey on something else?

Answer

I wrote about this in my book The First Existent, fifth conversation. In brief, a philosophical proof for the existence of God (deism) is a first step in the direction of religious commitment. The next step is not through philosophical tools, but on the basis of tradition. For details, see there.
