Q&A: Homosexuality
Homosexuality
Question
Your Honor wrote in “Moves Among the Standing” about homosexuality that it is not a scientific determination but a value judgment. Suppose that is so. Even if it is an illness or a deviation, does Jewish law decree upon the homosexual loneliness and no sexual relations at all? Isn’t this somewhat similar to someone who takes his own life, whom we judge favorably by saying he was ill and the illness overcame him and therefore he committed suicide, and for that reason the attitude toward him is like toward an ordinary deceased person? Isn’t this similar to a person who is under duress? And as is well known, someone under duress is exempt?
Answer
I wrote there that indeed this is a situation very close to duress.
