Q&A: The Fundraising Campaign for Ben Uliel
The Fundraising Campaign for Ben Uliel
Question
Does the Rabbi see it as a desecration of God’s name that Moshe Feiglin, Rabbis Dov Lior, Elikim Levanon, Yehoshua Shapira, and many others donated money to Ben Uliel’s campaign, promoted by MK Limor Son Har-Melech from Ben-Gvir’s party, who claimed that he is a pure righteous man? Isn’t this a desecration of God’s name? (I’m not talking about the demand to equalize his prison conditions, but about the donation itself.)
If so, how does the Rabbi explain such a phenomenon, that rabbis and others donate money to a person who is under fairly serious suspicion of having murdered an entire family, and they don’t even care about the public appearance of it?
Answer
I don’t have details about the matter. As far as I know, none of them justifies murder or supports a murderer. They argue that he did not commit the murder and that there was a miscarriage of justice. I don’t know how thoroughly they looked into it, but the claim itself is legitimate. Just like raising money for Zadorov.
