Q&A: Preparing for Battle
Preparing for Battle
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I’m apparently about to enter combat soon. How should I prepare mentally and intellectually? What should I remind myself of spiritually before the fighting and during it?
Answer
The main thing is to stay sharp and extremely careful. Don’t let routine and complacency do their work. Everything else is secondary. Don’t take risks because of uninvolved civilians, but be careful not to harm them for no reason. Revenge is taken only on the guilty / terrorists.
Put aside political positions and criticism of the army and the government. In combat, you should ignore them (except in extreme cases). Most importantly, protect yourself and come back safely. Wishing you great success.
