Q&A: Contradictions Between the Torah and Science
Contradictions Between the Torah and Science
Question
Hello, I wanted to ask whether the Torah is really true, because there are many contradictions between science and the Torah, such as: the hare does not chew the cud, the pig does chew the cud, there never was a first man, there is no evidence that the Exodus from Egypt took place, the world was not created in six days, man was not created from the earth, the age of the universe is not 6,000 years. Does this show that the Torah is not correct?
Answer
You can assume that if I still haven’t abandoned my religious commitment, then in my opinion the answer is no. Many things can be interpreted in a way that fits, and perhaps there are later additions in the Torah that were not part of the original divine core.
