Hello and blessings. My parents tried to convince me to take part in this kind of treatment, saying that it certainly won’t hurt and they’ve heard it helps. In your opinion, how should one respond to delusions like these, and what do you think is the logical argument that should be used to reject superstitions? (You can say there’s no proof that it works, but then they’ll tell you there’s also no proof that it doesn’t work, and because of the doubt it’s worth trying.)
Answer
You can tell them that this involves Torah prohibitions: sorcery, “You shall be wholehearted,” and more. You can also say that according to the Talmud, someone who is not concerned about the evil eye is not harmed by it. And beyond all that, you can simply say that you do not want to, because you do not believe in it, and that’s that. By their logic, you could also try standing on one leg to cure cancer. If it doesn’t help, it won’t hurt.

It is true that our rabbi, may he live long, is wise in every area,
but he does not have at home the book Tradition of the Hutzaflotz Rebbes, and therefore this is the part he does not know.
So I will volunteer to post here what is written there in secret script on page Kilatzet,
and this is their holy wording:
‘As is known, there is in the world a demon whose name is
MoltenLeadEvilEyeProviderOfLivelihoodToFools,
and whoever says his name out loud is immediately summoned,
and this is what he does in the world:
He strangles to death at night anyone who goes to those who remove the evil eye with lead, and not one person has escaped his strangling; and even if he stays awake the entire twenty-four hours of the day on which he went for the lead treatment, he will die, and nothing will help him escape its dominion.
For so His wisdom, may He be blessed, decreed.
And all the property of the slain person is consecrated to that demon, and within three years it goes to ruin, and his heirs derive no satisfaction from his wealth, even during those three years when the money is in their hands.
Tested and proven.
From time to time he attacks at night in bed people who did not go for evil-eye removal but merely thought about it and the like,
and he warns them to tell the whole world and his wife, and to make up stories that they went and were saved.
And if they do not do so three times every day, he will strangle them the following night.
