Q&A: Mikveh and Building Maintenance Fees
Mikveh and Building Maintenance Fees
Question
A building in which none of the men who live there make a point of immersing in the mikveh every day
(perhaps they therefore do not merit higher protection?).
But one of the residents is a Hasid of some rebbe, and he is careful to immerse every day.
He claims that his rebbe told him that he is the higher protection of the entire building, and that by virtue of his daily immersions the building merits higher protection from terrorists.
He therefore claims that he does not pay the building maintenance fee (190 NIS per month), because he gives the building more, since his immersions protect it…
He also claims that he is not subject to the majority decision that he must pay and settle his debt up to now,
because the neighbors do not understand the whole matter of immersions.
Is he right from his own perspective?
(to the extent that he truly is convinced that his immersions protect, and is not just using this as an excuse)
Answer
No. He has to comply with the decisions. He can stop immersing if he doesn’t want to.
