Good question. Until a few weeks ago it was clear to me that no, it wasn’t. I even thought it was absurd to stir up public controversies like the kind that arise in an election process in the middle of a war. Now I’m already in a different place. There’s a feeling that this isn’t ending, and apparently it also isn’t being managed properly, and the public has lost confidence. In that situation, maybe elections really are necessary, even though getting into all this filth in the middle of a war is still problematic. In short, I don’t have a clear position. Substantively, it’s obviously very appropriate to hold elections, but it will be hard to avoid all the mudslinging.
