Q&A: What Is Intuition?
What Is Intuition?
Question
Hello Michi, you say that intuition is a faculty of cognition, not of thinking. So what do you mean by a cognitive faculty, and by a thinking faculty? And why, in your view, is it this way and not otherwise? And where can one read about this / which philosophers discuss it? Thank you very much ❤️
Answer
I discussed this at length in my books Two Carts and Truth and Unstable. Here on the site as well, in column 592 and elsewhere (you can search).
I’m not familiar with discussions of this, but you can surely find things online. You just have to know that this is a matter of definition, and therefore not all that interesting. The question is not what we call intuition, but whether we have an ability to cognize the world beyond the sensory data themselves.
