Q&A: Seclusion
Seclusion
Question
Would there theoretically be a prohibition of seclusion in Big Brother?
Answer
Are you asking about seclusion of a brother with his sister? How is that different from a son with his mother?
There are opinions that permanent residence is forbidden (more than a day). See here: https://din.org.il/2015/08/05/%D7%99%D7%99%D7%97%D7%95%D7%93-%D7%90%D7%97-%D7%95%D7%90%D7%97%D7%95%D7%AA/
I wouldn’t be concerned about it.
Discussion on Answer
There are levels of trash I still haven’t sunk to, thank God. I assume the prohibition of seclusion is one of the smaller problems there. But I don’t know the format, so forgive me if I leave this urgent question unanswered.
It’s really not that hard to answer: there definitely is seclusion. Say they’re sitting in the nest upstairs near the pool—many times it’s a man and a woman talking alone, so both theoretically and physically there is seclusion….
Adi,
I’m not familiar with the format, but in principle anything broadcast live on television can’t be seclusion by definition.
Of course, from your description it sounds like seclusion is their last problem.
What about Sabbath desecration if someone watches what was filmed on the Sabbath?
Obviously as a rerun, since that would be deriving benefit from Sabbath desecration.
What was done unintentionally / under compulsion is permitted after the Sabbath. Someone who does this does not recognize that there is any prohibition involved. Beyond that, there is no object here that was produced through a prohibition.
I believe he meant the TV show Big Brother, where they’re filmed by cameras all the time.
