Q&A: The Debate of Douglas and Natasha with Mehdi and Gideon on Anti-Zionism
The Debate of Douglas and Natasha with Mehdi and Gideon on Anti-Zionism
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Did you watch this debate?
I think it has a lot of good material in it.
And one amazing point.
They argued there about many things. But anyone who listened carefully, like I did, noticed that about the essence of the discussion, about the question itself, there was actually no disagreement at all.
The question was philosophical: is anti-Zionism necessarily an antisemitic position?
Everyone there agreed:
A. That plain opposition to the right of Jews to self-determination is antisemitism.
B. Everyone agreed that there are many antisemites who make use of anti-Zionism, and that they apply a double standard toward Jews.
There was a lot of sniping there and some important discussions.
But on the descriptive-philosophical question for which they had gathered:
whether opposition to the Zionist position because it comes at the expense of another people is antisemitism—
everyone agreed. Each one said it differently.
What do you think?
Answer
I didn’t watch it. In general, these discussions bore me.
