Q&A: When do you say “Eloqim” and when do you say “Elohim”?
When do you say “Eloqim” and when do you say “Elohim”?
Question
I listened to Daniel Doshi’s podcast with you, and there you said “Eloqim,” and then corrected yourself and said that one should say “Elohim.”
What’s the difference from your perspective? When do you say which one, and why? I’d appreciate as much elaboration as possible.
Answer
When speaking about the Holy One, blessed be He, one can and should say “Elohim” with an h. That is His name. If you’re just using the word in a general sense (like “mighty powers”), it’s preferable to say it with a q. When writing this name, I’ve explained more than once that the spelling with a vav is not the Divine Name, and therefore it may be written freely.

Sorry for reviving this thread:
“So it’s preferable with a q” means that in principle it’s also possible with an h?
