Q&A: Theft?
Theft?
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Today I was standing at the bus stop. I was about to get on a bus to place X, and a woman asked me whether this bus goes to place Y, but I heard her as asking me whether this bus goes to place X, so I answered yes. After she got on and validated her Rav-Kav, she realized that the bus does not go where she needed. The woman got off, and I didn’t manage to tell her I was sorry or apologize for the fact that she now lost a few shekels. Do I need to do anything about this??
Answer
No. You were under compulsion and did the best you could. Mishaps happen. When it comes to the opinion of an expert who gives professional advice, he bears responsibility, and even there I do not know what the Jewish law would be if he erred in hearing the question.
