Q&A: Creation ex nihilo? And limitation?
Creation ex nihilo? And limitation?
Question
After reading your article about the problem of evil in the world, and about the laws of logic and the Creator’s subordination to them, I still have a question. It still wasn’t explained in the article what it means to say that He cannot make a square triangle. After all, if we accept the fact that the Holy One, blessed be He, created the world ex nihilo, then that “nothingness” should be seen in an absolute sense—that is, including the laws of thought and logic. So it makes no sense that He should be subject to a limitation of His own. In practice, there is no fundamental difference between, for example, the law of gravity and the law that says that 2+2=4. Both were “invented” and established by the Creator.
Answer
I explained it. He did not create the laws of logic, because they are not laws in the usual sense. Apparently you didn’t read it.
