Q&A: On Teleology in Quantum Mechanics
On Teleology in Quantum Mechanics
Question
Could the Rabbi briefly explain, for those who lack background in the field, what is meant by his claim that in quantum theory and modern physics there is no natural use at all for the concept of “force,” and that it can be described only artificially and only for very specific cases (or refer me to a place where the Rabbi explained this)?
Answer
I explained it briefly in the column. In quantum theory, the concept of force does not appear. There is nothing to explain; that is a fact. What does appear there is the potential, and I explained why that is a teleological perspective.
Discussion on Answer
Yes. In the Schrödinger equation.
Could you please explain in a simple way, one that would be understandable to an ignoramus like me, the idea of potential in the Schrödinger equation?
I tried searching, but my lack of background in physics prevents me from understanding the explanations.
Thank you
No
Could you explain where the potential appears in quantum theory?
