Q&A: Hermann Cohen
Hermann Cohen
Question
Hello Rabbi. I’d be glad to hear your opinion about the more extreme existentialism (Hermann Cohen), which holds that nothing objective can be said about what is outside. This view bothers me, and I don’t know where to put my finger on it (I mean my philosophical finger. I’ve already managed to place the psychological finger somewhere).
So what is your position regarding this existentialism / subjectivism? (I’d be glad to hear your view both from a dry philosophical perspective and in the religious sense.)
Thank you in advance
Answer
What you are describing is just plain skepticism. I expressed my view on skepticism in my books Two Carts and Truth and Unstable. If you have a concrete question, raise it.
