Q&A: Does He Still Exist?
Does He Still Exist?
Question
Can the Creator commit suicide? Apparently that’s not a logical contradiction, even though Maimonides counted it together with a square triangle?
So let’s ask not according to Maimonides’ approach, which is basically the approach of “and You give life to them all” — meaning, according to the interpretation that the Creator is not like a carpenter, where after he makes the table the productive force is no longer in the object produced; because according to that view, if the Creator committed suicide then the whole world would be erased.
But in one place you answered me that this is not necessary; it could be that from the outset He gave creation the power to manage on its own and there is no need to keep pumping it up at all.
If so, according to that approach, and especially in light of (or in darkness of, as you noted several times) your view that the Creator is no longer involved in His mature world —
a truly real question: who says He didn’t commit suicide, die, leave, pass away, disappear, evaporate, and all the rest of that idolatrous paraphernalia? Who says He exists?
Answer
It seems to me He’s doing yoga, and that’s why He doesn’t answer.
By the way, maybe I committed suicide too. Who knows.
Discussion on Answer
One transgression leads to another: at first you make fun of my question, and in the end you don’t address it at all. Or perhaps you committed suicide and are unable to answer me. Pity for those who commit suicide and are not to be found. And I already told you that you cleave to His attributes: just as He committed suicide, so too did you.
Our Rabbi Michi forever — whether alive or lost, we’re behind you. Save me a place in oblivion next to you.
(Like that heretical fellow who went to take leave of his friend who was lying sick, and said: I place you under oath that after your death you return and appear to me in a dream and tell me whether there is anything after death, or perhaps there is total oblivion. He clasped his hand and swore to him, and immediately his soul departed at once. That night he appeared to his friend and said: Let it be known to you that there is nothing after death except total oblivion, and I have been sent by the commissioner angel over oblivion to tell you this, because of the oath I swore to you and the clasping of hands.)
What does that have to do with anything? There’s an indication that you are alive and well — here you are uploading posts into the ether every Monday and Thursday, alive, breathing, kicking, hurting, and slaughtering every sacred cow, and every non-sacred one too, as they’re called in your way.
But the Creator of the world — you yourself said there is no indication whatsoever that He is involved in the world. Add to that what you said, that you don’t see any need for Him to keep pumping the world constantly, rather the power He gave it from creation is enough (add to that that if there is no World to Come, then He has no reason at all to wait).
So what is the indication that He exists, after you proved clearly, with great and terrible signs and wonders, that there is no indication of His involvement?
