Q&A: Does Maimonides claim that one must be Haredi?
Does Maimonides claim that one must be Haredi?
Question
Good morning and have a good week, Rabbi!
From Maimonides' words, it would seem that one has to be Haredi?
Laws of Idol Worship 11:1:
"One may not follow the customs of the idolaters, nor imitate them in dress, hairstyle, and the like, as it says, 'You shall not walk in the statutes of the nations,' and it says, 'And in their statutes you shall not walk,' and it says, 'Take care lest you be ensnared after them.' All of these verses warn about the same matter: that one should not resemble them, but rather the Jew should be distinct from them and recognizable in his clothing and in his other actions, just as he is distinct from them in his knowledge and his beliefs. And so it says, 'And I have separated you from the peoples.' One should not wear clothing unique to them, nor grow the locks of his head as they do, nor shave the sides and leave the hair in the middle, as they do—and this is what is called a forelock; nor should one shave the hair opposite his face from ear to ear and leave the hair long behind him, as they do; nor should one build places in the style of the temples of the idolaters so that many may enter them, as they do. And anyone who does any one of these things, or anything similar, is flogged."
Answer
I suggest asking him.
Discussion on Answer
In any case, Michi doesn't listen to rabbis, so what Maimonides thought isn't really that interesting to him.
I see that the "Haredi" troll concept exists here too.
What do you mean?
