Q&A: I've Lost My Way.
I've Lost My Way.
Question
Hello, Rabbi Michi!
I honestly feel like I've gotten a bit lost. I don't know what the right order of study is.
I'm learning Talmud with commentaries, and also practical Jewish law (Shulchan Arukh + Mishneh Torah), and I would also like to study responsa, but I don't know if that's the right thing to do. I feel really confused. And in the end, my goal is to know the Jewish law and to get into the mindset of how halakhic rulings are made.
Is there some correct order of study? Something worth focusing on?
Thank you for your time
Answer
I don't have a general recommendation. You need to start with the Talmud and acquire knowledge and analytic learning skills. After that, it is certainly recommended to go through responsa in order to see the form of analysis and thinking.
