Q&A: Is it permitted to promote an app for payment collection and business management intended for spiritual advisors abroad
Is it permitted to promote an app for payment collection and business management intended for spiritual advisors abroad
Question
I have a client who wants me to promote online an app that allows charging payment for recorded consultation calls, a platform similar to Zoom, and managing appointment schedules, clients, and more. This is ostensibly a general platform that any consultant could use, but they are targeting it specifically to spiritual advisors, tarot card readers, and the like.
The advertising itself is also aimed at those spiritual advisors / card readers (in the United States, mostly non-Jews, if that makes any difference) and explains to them that they can easily advise people all over the world and charge payment by the minute for the call.
Is there any prohibition against advertising this?
Answer
Although in my opinion there is nothing of substance in all this, there are people who do believe in it. As long as this is not fraud, and both sides believe that it is helpful, I do not see any prohibition here. That is if we are talking about something with no real substance. If it is idolatry, that is of course a different matter.
