Was it correct to rule that way? If so, why doesn’t this line continue nowadays?

Is this trolling? Obviously one cannot rule that way. Neither halakhically nor legally. Even if the spirit revealed hidden facts, that doesn’t mean that a theory about the murder and the identity of the murderer is correct.

Actually, you reminded me of a story in the Talmud in which Rabbi Meir saw his father in a dream, and his father told him about money hidden in some place that belonged to the Temple treasury. Rabbi Meir indeed went to that place, found it, and pocketed it all, saying: “There is no dream without idle elements.” What was revealed turned out to be correct, great—but as for the instruction that it belonged to the Temple treasury, that need not be taken into account.
