Q&A: Why Less Than 30%?
Why Less Than 30%?
Question
This morning I saw in Maariv that they cited a poll showing that fewer than 30% oppose the shutdown day and the protests.
My question is:
How is it possible that people don’t object to having the roads blocked for them, etc.?
After all, there is a government that was elected,
and shutting down roads is plainly an action against it.
Answer
I have no trust at all in these polls. According to the polls, most of the public also wants a hostage deal now at any price.
The problem here is not the road blockages. For a justified cause, I too would forgo my narrow personal interests. The problem is that this protest is being carried out by Hamas’s Israeli long arm. Its goal is to prevent, once and for all and in a clear way, the return of the hostages, victory, and the achievement of the war’s objectives. That is the main problem with this infantile protest. And that does not have 70% support.
Discussion on Answer
Hamas is under pressure.
If Netanyahu falls, who will finance them?
Who will agree to accept handouts from Qatar?
There’s no choice:
we have to strengthen Hamas, since it’s an asset.
And therefore it’s forbidden to protest against Netanyahu’s absolutely full-on regime.
This morning I thought that some of the people there might even be aware that they are serving Hamas and preventing the return of the hostages. But from their perspective, toppling the government is worth it. If they manage to prevent the government from achieving victory and bringing back the hostages, maybe it will fall, and that is worth everything to them. The others who join in without awareness or understanding are just plain stupid.
