Pants and a Headband
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Why is it forbidden for girls to wear pants? It’s obvious that it’s very modest.
Also, regarding head covering: assuming this isn’t a matter of modesty because of exposing the hair (otherwise unmarried women would also have to cover their hair), why is it forbidden to go with a headband?
Thank you.
Answer
I don’t think it is forbidden to wear ordinary, reasonable pants. As for head covering, that is a Torah-level law, so we do not interpret it based on its reasons. Opinions are divided over how much covering is required, but the custom is to wear a substantial covering.
Discussion on Answer
Whatever you understand it to mean.
Why do you say that?
Thank you very much.
Could you give an example of what counts as substantial? What’s the reasonable spectrum?
