Q&A: Contraction and Nullification in Sixty
Contraction and Nullification in Sixty
Question
In the series on the relationship between the Holy One, blessed be He, and the world, you raised a possible resolution of the topic of contraction by looking at dimensions. Could one say in a different direction that the meaning of contraction not in its literal sense (together with the principle of grace) is not that there are no longer any entities (the world), but rather that relative to the Infinite Light it is nullified—not ontologically, but in value. Like something that is “nullified in sixty”: it exists, but we simply do not treat it as such. Just as if there is no one in a room, we would define it as empty, even though it contains bacteria and dust, etc. What do you think?
Answer
Possible. These are all analogies, so I do not see a major difference here.
