Defining spirituality

שו"תDefining spirituality

I saw a question on one of the less successful heretical forums on the web, and I thought I'd share it. Because someone like you who has written entire columns on definitions of concepts, and written many books on the subject, would love this question, which to my surprise I didn't find discussed openly here on the site. I left only the parts that are worthy of discussion here.

2) What is the essence of the spiritual world, how is it defined? Where is it located in terms of the universe?

3) What is the spiritual world made of, does it have its own particles? And what laws exist there? After all, if there are no laws there and everything is possible, then it is in the nature of "chaos."

I suppose the claim about the spiritual world can refer to the world of ideas, the soul, morality, God, etc., etc.

The term "spiritual world" is unclear. Who said there is such a world? And maybe there are several? Does he mean the soul, fairies or demons, or perhaps Platonic ideas? In general, it is difficult to define the concept of 'spiritual' in a positive way. It is essentially a claim that there is something beyond matter. Incidentally, matter is not at all easy to define in a non-circular way either. Spiritual things do not necessarily have a location. A wave has no location, photons have no location, and the soul has no reason to assume a location either. As for what the spiritual world consists of, that's again an undefined question (see here at the beginning). I have no idea if there are particles there or not. I also have no idea if there are laws there or not. And if it's chaos, then what? Is there some rule that there must not be chaos? In short, it is a collection of undefined questions and it is doubtful how much meaning they have. In any case, the inability to answer them should not interfere with our uses of the concept 'spiritual'. The claim that there is spirit in the world means that not everything is matter. For this purpose, there is no need to define the concept of spirit positively.
