Help finding a book or idea

Do you perhaps know a book that dealt with the world of Kabbalah and the question of whether the spheres and the upper worlds are a parable? A metaphorical, allegorical description of some idea? And yes, the path to this – do you know?
I intend to write an academic research book that deals with this question at length and catalogs the different opinions. But other types of books will also help me.
