Hello Rabbi, a few questions.
Is it permissible to study mathematics on Tisha B'Av?
The media tends to publish a lot of data about the private lives of politicians, things that of course do not concern and belong to the general public. Is there a halachic problem with this (Darby and Gershom's ban on reading letters to others)? And given that this is forbidden even after it has been made public, will I still, as a Torah-observant and mitzvot, be a star to watch?

In principle, it is forbidden to distract oneself from the fast. But I find it difficult to resist, and therefore I think it is preferable to many other pursuits. I don't think the section is a blasphemy. It's about slander and gossip. Once everyone knows this, I don't think there's any point in being strict and avoiding it. The question is whether it's permissible to believe. I wrote here in the past (see column 256) that I'm uncomfortable with this instruction from the Knesset (prohibition of believing). If it's reasonable in your opinion, then believe it, but it's worth being careful that you're wrong.
