On the appointment of Lieberman

שו"תOn the appointment of Lieberman
שאל לפני 10 שנים

Hello Rabbi Michi, I've been hearing a lot lately about the Ya'alon case, and about Lieberman's appointment, and in general about the apparent danger that we will become a dictatorship. Among other things, the issue of the imprisoned refugees is also raised. Is there such a danger?

I highly doubt it.
There is a tendency for left-wing individuals and organizations to get hysterical about anything that doesn't suit them. It's like the Haredim, for whom every little thing is a potential holocaust and the destruction of the world, so it is with the left. When you put someone who is not one of them on the Supreme Court, it's a holocaust and the destruction of democracy. When the Knesset enacts something trivial, it's destruction. Miri Regev and Lieberman are a holocaust for democracy, and so on and so forth. All of this is really pathetic in my eyes and without basis. I don't see the slightest danger to democracy. If the left (and its Arab minions) are holding on and not collapsing, then it is probably very strong.
The root of the matter is that if the left does not feel like a persecuted minority, it will not be a left, even when it has complete control over certain areas (journalism, academia, art). Still, in their own eyes, they will always be a persecuted minority in danger of extinction and even physical annihilation, and they will cry out in anger against the entire world and its people.
I think they pose a much greater danger to democracy than the right. See the case of the party at the Faculty of Law that I mentioned in the last post on my website .
