Priesthood for women

שו"תPriesthood for women
שאל לפני 4 שנים

Hello Rabbi,

I understand that you support changing the law so that women will be eligible to testify in court.
As a daughter of a priestly family, I would like to know your opinion regarding the priesthood of women. When the Temple is built, will I be able to serve as a regular priestess, and perhaps even advance to high priesthood?
And another question: Why is the priesthood inherited only in priestly families? Doesn't the fact that ordinary Jews are not allowed to serve in the Temple constitute discrimination?
Thank you very much and have a good week.

I raised the possibility of training women to testify, but this is not a firm position. I assume the same option will arise with regard to women's work in the Temple. The advantage is that then there will already be a Sanhedrin and I, Menil, who will be able to make up-to-date decisions. Regarding the fact that Israelis cannot work in the Temple, this can be seen as discrimination. There is quite a bit of discrimination in Halacha. I'm just saying that not all discrimination is wrong. If there are good reasons for it, then discrimination is allowed.
