Shabbat Pico'n

שו"תShabbat Pico'n
שאל לפני 2 שנים

If I carry a weapon on Shabbat (when I'm not on alert or anything, but at home when I go out) due to the security situation, am I allowed to adjust the sight of the weapon to the daytime position so that if, God forbid, a terrorist malfunctions, he can neutralize it quickly and not waste time adjusting the sight to the daytime position? (The operation of the sight involves an electrical operation.)

If there is no tangible danger and you are not on duty, then in my opinion it is forbidden. Brandishing a weapon is not forbidden for men even without danger (because it is a piece of jewelry for them), and even if it is considered forbidden, it is a prohibition imposed by the rabbis. On the other hand, operating an electrical mechanism (in my opinion, it is a prohibition from the Torah) is not permitted except in a tangible situation.
