Technological evolution

שו"תTechnological evolution
שאל לפני 4 שנים

Good evening!
Tam's question: Is it correct to say that the computer that builds robots in its own image is actually heredity, only it is not biological?
And is it correct to imagine a computer program that is copied into a dividing cell (although the software does not operate in phenotype, but rather parallels the genotype)?
And if we combine the questions, then does a computer that creates robots and puts its software in them, and they too will continue to create, is this evolution (of course, without getting into the selection part)?
Another question: If natural selection and heredity are a blind process in which what is better adapted is the one that survives, then how can we talk about epigenetics that (perhaps) allows for the inheritance of acquired traits?
thanks.

It's just a question of definition. If these robots go extinct and deal with the environment then there will definitely be evolution. The mechanism of inheritance doesn't matter. What matters is that there is inheritance. You can read about epigenetics in sources that deal with it, for example, on Wikipedia.
