Israeli-Palestinian Remembrance Day
Hello Rabbi,
This is not so much a question as more of a request for help.
I read a little about the joint Memorial Day ceremony for Israelis and Palestinians, and it aroused opposition in me.
The problem is that I tried to think for myself what I thought was problematic about it, and I was unable to define things to the end in order to examine my position in a substantive manner or change my mind if necessary. I would be happy if you could help me analyze the basic assumptions in the discussion, and vote on whether the questions and the arrangement of things (not the conclusions) are correct or whether there are things that need to be corrected. I would also like to know what the Rabbi thinks about the subject.
I'll explain what I mean. I thought the first question was what the point of the Memorial Day ceremony is, and why do we bother to commemorate it and unite with the memory of the fallen. Then try to think whether this point can also include Palestinian deaths killed by Jews (IDF, etc.). If not, what is the point that is being noted and remembered in the joint ceremony, and do I have an objection to the statement of the ceremony itself or to the statement of the ceremony that this is the point of Memorial Day.
Thank you very much.
