Q&A: Spiritual Experience
Spiritual Experience
Question
Hello Rabbi,
You wrote in the notebook on the ontological proof about the difference between knowing something and experiencing it (as in the example of Mary’s room, where she had not experienced yellow light). My question is: how does one actually get from a state of knowing the Creator to a state of experiencing and recognizing Him?
Answer
I don’t think there is a way to experience Him in an immediate, direct way. Perhaps through prophecy.
Discussion on Answer
I don’t know which notebook you mean. In any case, in my opinion there is no way to experience Him directly the way we experience objects in this world. Did I write otherwise?
You can understand that He exists, but not experience Him (just like in Mary’s room, you can understand but not experience).
So then I didn’t understand what the recognition of God was that you were talking about in the notebook?
