Q&A: The Truth of the Torah
The Truth of the Torah
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Is the proof from fins and scales—that anything that has scales has fins—considered conclusive proof that the Torah was given by God and not by man?
Answer
I haven’t checked, but I know there are objections to this. I recall that the author of Da’at Emet, may he live long, discussed this at length for his own purposes.
Beyond that, the Torah does not say that anything that has scales has fins. That is in the Talmud. In the Torah it only says that both are required.
Discussion on Answer
I thought about deleting this cryptic, trolling note (even my email warned me about a suspicious message. It looks like it was written by a bot), but for now I’ll leave it. If you want an answer about something, you should take another minute to clarify the question and its context. If you’re referring to another thread, it would be appropriate to attach a link.
Rabbi, I came across a test in which they asked you about the parameters of desecration of God’s name.
Is there desecration of God’s name in the first line?
As for the rest of the line, some answer that the objections are about scales that cannot be peeled off by hand and therefore do not fit the definition given by the Oral Torah. (And Rabbi Jonathan Eybeschutz in Kereti U’Peleti said that the intent is the majority.)
