Q&A: Uncertainty
Uncertainty
Question
Hello,
I’ve happened to see in a few places that you talk about how nothing is certain, not even the existence of God, and you compare it to the fact that you’re not certain there’s a lamp in front of you, for example, because maybe it’s a mirage. So my question is: do you believe that God exists to the same degree that you believe there’s a lamp in front of you? Because it seems to me that it’s not such an accurate comparison… In other words, even if nothing is certain, there are still things we’re more certain about and things we’re less certain about.
(If there’s something in front of your eyes that you see, you assume it exists until proven otherwise. I’m not sure the same can be done with God—to assume He exists until proven otherwise.)
Answer
Obviously. I said that nothing is certain, but I didn’t say the nonsense that every claim is equally certain. What does one have to do with the other? Now decide for yourself how convinced you are about each thing, including the existence of God.
