Q&A: ʻOumuamua and the Problem of Dogmatism
ʻOumuamua and the Problem of Dogmatism
Question
Hello Rabbi,
First of all, thank you very much for your work. It is beyond price.
I wanted to ask what you think about the issue of ʻOumuamua?
This interstellar object—whether it is an asteroid, a comet, or some kind of intelligent body—that arrived from outside the solar system and was observed sometime in 2017.
This object has anomalous characteristics and a number of interesting features that at the very least require some examination and attention—its speed, its shape, and the trajectory in which it moves.
I read several articles by Prof. Avi Loeb, who deals extensively with this matter, and I would still be glad to hear your opinion—not so much a ruling on this specific question as on the proper way to approach the broader issue (are we alone), in light of the problem of dogmatism in science.
Thank you very much.
Answer
I have no idea. I’ve never heard of it in my life.
