Q&A: The Physico-Theological Proof
The Physico-Theological Proof
Question
Hello Rabbi, I have a question, if I may: what is the reason that something with a special structure is not formed spontaneously? I saw that you gave examples like a house or a watch, but a house and a watch are things human beings made—isn’t that different? I would be happy if the Rabbi could explain. And are the laws of nature something that comes from our experience? Thanks in advance.
Answer
You are not looking for a cause but for an explanation. A complex thing is rare, and random formation will generally not produce it. When you roll a die, you will not get 6 a hundred times in a row, because that is a special outcome. This has nothing to do with the question of whether human beings created the thing or not. It is a statistical claim that is unrelated to who the creator is.
