Q&A: Drug Dealing
Drug Dealing
Question
Good morning.
Is dealing drugs immoral? Of course today it’s illegal, so a lot of shady people join that line of work. But in essence, how is it different from selling alcohol, cigarettes, or unhealthy snacks? And even if we say that some drugs are basically a death sentence, is it morally permissible to sell drugs that aren’t like that—for example hallucinogenic mushrooms and the like?
Answer
If it is addictive or dangerous, then it is forbidden. Alcohol is consumed by most people in a reasonable amount, and someone who chooses otherwise is causing himself to stumble. Cigarettes are much harder not to get addicted to, and the harm to health is more direct and unequivocal, so in my opinion it is morally forbidden to sell them.
