Question

Hi, good afternoon.
I’m about to enlist in the IDF. I have a profile of 64—meaning I’ll be in a non-combat role—so my placement is supposed to be determined by a placement officer.
Right now, everyone around me is telling me that if I want a good desk-job position I have to use connections and pull strings; that’s the only way it works, etc. I have relatives who could probably help me with this. The question is whether that is morally legitimate. After all, in the end it hurts another candidate’s chances of getting that position, and the fact that this is how the IDF works shouldn’t mean I also have to behave that way.
What do you think? Is it legitimate? What if I have good reason to believe that I really would be able to contribute more than the average recruit to the position I want?
