Q&A: What Is the "Blank"?
What Is the "Blank"?
Question
Hello Rabbi, I would be glad to know whether it is true, as it appears in parts of society, that the "blank" is secularity. And as a result they claim, for example, that religion is a limiting factor, worship, or "unnecessary" (if we go along with their mistake in applying Occam’s razor). If so, why? Thank you very much.
Answer
The wording of the question is unclear. If I understood correctly, you are asking on whom the burden of proof lies—the believers or the atheists. The question is not well defined. Certainly, absent anything else, the burden of proof is on the believers, since they are claiming that something exists. But if we assume there is a tradition and someone comes to challenge it, one could say that the burden of proof is on him. Of course, one can also view the tradition itself as evidence brought by the believer, and then we are back to the first approach.
