Q&A: The Halakhic Status of Sections of the Prayer Service
The Halakhic Status of Sections of the Prayer Service
Question
Which sections of the weekday morning prayer service are actually a real halakhic obligation, and which are not? I understood from the Rabbi that he does not pray the entire service, and I would be glad to understand the issue a bit more deeply.
Answer
I don’t know where you got that from. In the past I recommended “Sidduran Shel Yechidim” (search online), which offers guidance on these matters.

Discussion on Answer
No.
Did it escape your crystal-clear eye:
in the section titled “What’s Wrong with Books?”
It didn’t escape me, and that’s not what it says there.
I also remember that in an interview with Makor Rishon you said that during Pesukei DeZimra you cut corners.
Please, here is the quote: “In general, I would give up many parts of the prayer service. It’s just long, unnecessary text that doesn’t speak to anyone. The parts that are truly necessary from a halakhic standpoint, from Barechu until the end of the Amidah, I say. But during the rest of the prayer service I bring books to the synagogue and read. Those are my most productive hours.”
Didn’t the Rabbi write in the past that part of the prayer service is not relevant and that he skips some sections?
