Q&A: The Reality of the Laws of Physics vs. the Reality of the Creator
The Reality of the Laws of Physics vs. the Reality of the Creator
Question
In the physico-theological argument, you show that the laws of physics are so specific and unique that it is not rational to assume they are accidental.
But a reality in which an infinite Creator exists is also unique; just as well, there could have been nothing at all, yet specifically an intelligent Creator exists in reality. That too is unique.
So to say that the Creator is not part of our experience and therefore does not need to be explained… but the formation of the laws of physics is also not part of our experience. Our experience has always been, and always will be, within the framework of the laws of physics. The formation of the laws of physics is not part of our experience. If a reality in which there is a Creator does not require an explanation, then a reality in which there are laws of physics also does not require an explanation.
Answer
The laws of physics are not entities, but a description of how reality operates. Therefore the laws require a lawgiver to explain why they are this way. If you see the laws as entities, then they themselves are the physico-theological god.
Discussion on Answer
Ask them.
So this argument is saying that there is something that brought about the laws of physics, and we do not know what it is because it is outside our experience. Atheists say that too, don’t they?
