Q&A: What to Study in the Meantime
What to Study in the Meantime
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I am currently in a yeshiva high school, and next year I will be studying in a post-high-school yeshiva.
I wanted to ask: what do you think would be worthwhile for me to study this year?
Is it better right now to focus on broad coverage, since in yeshiva there tends to be less emphasis on that, and in the meantime build breadth and familiarity with different parts of the Talmud before starting more in-depth analysis?
Or is it preferable to begin learning more deeply and analytically now, in order to develop my thinking and arrive at yeshiva with some experience in in-depth study?
Thank you very much.
Answer
I don't have a clear answer to that. As a rule, I prefer progress through in-depth study over broad coverage. The question is whether you have the option to do that in a yeshiva high school.
