Q&A: Who Is Your Rabbi?
Who Is Your Rabbi?
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I would be glad to know who the honored Rabbi’s rabbi is—whom you see as a guide, who is your teacher and rabbi, whom you consult with, who inspires you. Maybe there are several from the list of questions I mentioned?? I’d be glad to receive an answer.
Best regards,
A Simple Jew
Answer
I’d be glad to know too.
Discussion on Answer
No. I’d also be glad to know who mine is.
Does the Rabbi not see any value in having a rabbi, or is it simply that technically there isn’t such a person?
I’m not lacking anything. And I also don’t know anyone who would be suitable from my perspective. Why would I want something like that? Did you ask Rabbis Dov Lando, Yaakov Ariel, Dov Lior, or Moshe Hillel Hirsch whether they have a rabbi?
It seems to me that all the rabbis the Rabbi mentioned did have rabbis, but I also think the simple assumption is that there’s no need for rabbis—only that the common assumption in the public is that there is some value/need for it (maybe from Talmudic sources), and I was interested in what the Rabbi thinks about that.
Glad about what?
To know who mine is?
I’ll gladly write it to you!!
But who yours is matters more, when you present yourself to the public as a rabbi.
