Q&A: Make for Yourself a Rabbi
Make for Yourself a Rabbi
Question
Dear Rabbi, can I define you as my rabbi if I follow your rulings and writings even though we have no personal relationship?
Besides that, I wanted to say that I really enjoy your writings
and the whole wonderful ideology; I learn a tremendous amount from you!
Answer
For some reason this "question" escaped my notice. Gladly.
Discussion on Answer
I didn't mean that I'd be happy for him to define me as his rabbi. I meant that I'm happy to write, and that he enjoys it. (I don't think there was even a question here about whether he can define me as his rabbi.)
Good thing Big Brother's eye is open. 🙂

Really enjoying it, Rabbi; with much love, happy holiday and Shabbat shalom
If I remember correctly, the Rabbi once wrote to someone who asked something similar that there isn't really much practical difference, aside from some law about honoring one's rabbi or something.
Why is this different?
