Q&A: Foods Without Passover Certification
Foods Without Passover Certification
Question
Festive regards, Rabbi.
1) Is it permitted to eat on Passover products that do not say “kosher for Passover”? Is there more room to be lenient with tea and the like?
2) Does a camping stove need koshering for Passover by purging with boiling water? If so, is it permitted to kosher it during the intermediate days of the festival? How?
Answer
Only products that you are certain contain nothing in them that you do not know about (there are almost no such things, aside from fresh fruit and the like).
A camping stove is no different from a regular gas stove. Purging with boiling water during the intermediate days of the festival is problematic according to most halakhic decisors, because leaven on Passover is prohibited even in the slightest amount (it is not nullified). But heating to the point of burning out residue is possible even during the intermediate days.
