Organ Donation
Question
Hello!
I heard that the Rabbi holds that one may donate organs (and perhaps there is even an obligation to do so), even if one maintains that only cardiac death is considered halakhic death. Is that correct? Are there other rabbis who hold this way too (not that it really matters, just curious)?
Answer
Cardiac death is certainly death; the debate is about brain death. I argue that even if brain death is not defined as death, there is still an obligation to donate organs on which life depends during the interval between brain death and cardiac death.
I am not familiar with similar opinions.
