Q&A: Is It Permissible to Ask Christians Questions About Faith
Is It Permissible to Ask Christians Questions About Faith
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Is it permissible from a halakhic standpoint to ask Christians questions about faith?
Because here in Israel, and among Jews in general, I don’t know many people who deal with this. But in English it’s just overflowing with material—every professor from Stanford seems to have a polished, serious missionary website.
Also, they’re like missionaries (maybe because they really are…), so they’d probably be happy to write at length, especially to someone from Israel… unlike here in Israel, where people write in a rush. (Though admittedly with quality.)
Answer
It is permissible to ask anyone who, in your opinion, will contribute to your understanding. And even if it were forbidden—I would still go ask.
I’d like to add that the missionaries are doing very strong work abroad.
For example, one of them already invited me to vacation at his place / or for him to visit me here in Israel on his next trip.
To send pictures, family photos (for example, he sent me some), etc. etc.
Of course, everything is being done through an anonymous user 🙂
But it’s pretty funny how much ambition they have. Even the atheists in Israel don’t come close to their level!
