I would like to know whether, in the Rabbi’s view, a Yemenite etrog should be preferred, especially in light of the words of the Hatam Sofer, section 207, that the fact that “the taste of the tree is like the taste of the fruit,” mentioned in the Talmud, is the significant identifying sign of an etrog—and in the Yemenite etrog there is no juice, so this sign is fulfilled there in a particularly exemplary way. In other etrogim, by contrast, the amount of juice is often very large. In addition, its seeds stand upright, which is one of the identifying signs mentioned by the Mishnah Berurah.
