I was asked this not long ago. I answered that since I’m not well-versed in the subject, I can’t make recommendations. In my remarks I didn’t mean anything specific. As I noted, usually this happens through a certain kind of classes and teachers, rather than through a certain kind of books. The difference is not between the books; rather, if there is a good teacher, he can do this with any book (though in many cases it comes from him, not from the book). I also mentioned here that in Chabad you can find quite a bit of this, especially the Tanya.
